How To Make Your Year Work For You

Intention, Decide what matters, Work with your dreams, Create space, Ask, Use shadow for transformation, Nourish yourself

Set an intention - a focus - a north star

Since honouring the fact that I am a co-creator in my life I have been playing with setting an intention and choosing a word for each year. As this year comes to a close and I reflect on the year that was, I am marvelling at the power of setting an intention. For 2025 I chose the word connection. I set about organising trips to visit family overseas and spent time with my mum and my sister in Tasmania, then forgot about my word until now. As I look back, I realise that connection is very much about being in the moment and being in a state of flow. This is how this year has felt.

Decide what you need & what matters most

One of the prompts for my word for the year was my challenges with brain function.  I have been pulling myself out of fatigue and navigating the many symptoms of perimenopause for the past 2 years and this year I had the biochemical support of bio-identical hormones. It has made a world of difference to my physical state of being and given me the capacity to show up for myself and others; and this in essence is connection. Hormones are the chemical messengers of connection in the brain and body.  They allow for communication, so it is no coincidence that they played a staring role in my year of connection.  Perimenopause has been an invitation for connection with self honesty, compassion and self forgiveness.  I have discovered that these qualities are absolutely necessary while the body and brain stumble along with the changes that occur at this stage of life. Also named the second puberty, it gives you a second chance at many of your big life lessons, so that you can play the game of life from a more empowered perspective. And perhaps this is the case for other phases of life and for men too. We always have the opportunity to choose a new and empowered version of self. Connection with the higher self is what supports this.

Work with your dreams

The mysteries of our unconscious and our psyche can be brought into view through working with night dreams. Many of my dreams this year have been dredging up experiences from puberty, re-working them and presenting new re-imagined and empowered versions. This has been very healing for me. It has helped me to release stored emotion, and illuminated my inner obstacles to support their transformation. It was the suffering of my younger self which drew me to kinesiology so I can be grateful for that. I touch on this in a podcast interview that I had recently.  You can hear about this and more about kinesiology on Ebony Rose’s podcast - Aligned.

Create space for what you want

If you are like me, you are not going to make anything happen unless it is in your schedule or on your to-do list. If it matters for your year ahead, schedule it in to a date and time and show up for yourself.  Creating space in your year or your week to have free time can also be helpful for giving your soul some space to be seen and heard, and to create.

Connection with space for myself was also a big part of this years intention (no offence everyone). In fact, truth be known, I write a gratitude journal every morning and looking over my gratitudes this year, many of them were words of appreciation for the many wonderful clients I have, along with all that this brings to my life. So a big thank you to every one who has worked with me and inspired me through being so honest and true. I truly do appreciate your trust in me and the big contribution you make to the world. All my long distance traveling this hear has made for a lot of head space for me and I can highly recommend taking a sojourn from your everyday life, for a  few hours, a day or a week or more. It is a wonderful way to create the space for creativity and meaningful connection.

Taking time and space to reflect on what really matters to you and what you truly want is a small act that can make a big contribution to your year ahead. As you reflect on your year, hone in on what you have been grateful for.  This is food for the soul to nourish your year ahead.

Make a list of all that you want to give thanks for.  This will be energy well spent to attract more of that.

Also consider what makes you great and write it out.  These are important building blocks for your year ahead.  Words have power and give you meaningful ingredients for setting your intentions for the coming year.

Is there a theme that is shining through to you as you list out what you are grateful for and what makes you great?

Ask for what you want

Sometimes we need space to discover what we need, sometimes it shows itself in melt downs - or minor melt downs - such as struggling to do simple tasks such as tending to washing.  My brain had been heading for a melt down for a while, so I decided it was time to take radical action and give myself what I really wanted. And that radical action has amounted to a lot of time off, so thank you everyone for your patience while I have dipped in and out of consulting this year.  Now I have had a brain break for all those neural connections to be restored, I am ready to help your brain. Supporting brain function is a big part of my work as a kinesiologist.  It means a lot to me because when your brain works, you can make life work for you.

And if you want a fun little game to inspire you to ask, consider this number game.  Michael and I created a game of asking on our road trip across Australia recently,  Every time we saw a triple number on the odometer, or on our phone, we would verbalise our wishes. It is a bit like speed dating and it really makes you think about what matters most when you only have a short period of a triple number moment to call out your wishes. Hot tip: It is great to spot a 999 on the odometer, because after that is 000 = more time for manifesting.

Use your shadows for transformation

I have been doing a lot of kinesiology on myself this year to support my hormone and brain function.  These are two aspects of function very much associated with connection. It has been a big process of releasing conscious and unconscious physical and emotional interference patterns.  Kinesiology and massage are both effective ways of supporting transformation. I also talk about this in the podcast - Aligned.

Kinesiology has a unique way of using muscle testing to tap into your body’s wisdom for healing and honouring what exactly is needed for you in each moment. I have also created a self muscle testing course for you to explore this yourself.  It can be accessed on my Soulful Support Subscription site https://www.soulnurturing.com.au/member-homepage

Now as I consider what my word for next year will be, I am reflecting on the things that bother me in this world, as that is a good hint for the scope for inner growth. This year I have decided on the words True Power. I am choosing to transform any of my complaining about abuse of power or injustices into remembering Divine power. Any recognition of what is not right in the world is an invitation to be the change I wish to see in the world. I may trip up and I may find a lot of inner obstacles. It may reveal the ways I misuse my own power, or give my power away. This is all part of the process of growth as a human on planet Earth. So let’s all be patient, forgiving and compassionate with each other as we make mistakes and grow from them.

Nourish yourself
